Hyderabad: In a major endorsement of progressive EV policy-making, the Charge Point Operators Society of India (CPOSI) honoured Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Principal Secretary, Energy Department, Government of Telangana, for spearheading a groundbreaking reform that’s set to supercharge India’s electric vehicle infrastructure.
The State’s bold move to extend LT-IX EV category limits to 150 kW (201 HP) eliminates the need for costly high-tension (HT) power connections for EV charging stations of this size, unlocking low-tension (LT) tariff benefits and dramatically reducing capital costs and project delays.
“This initiative by the Government of Telangana will eliminate one of the biggest barriers to rapid EV-charging infrastructure deployment,” said Sri Rajeev YSR, Board Member of CPOSI and CEO of ThunderPlus. “The state’s commitment to rolling out over 6,000 public charging stations by 2030 dovetails perfectly with ThunderPlus’s mission to end range anxiety and fast-track India’s electric mobility revolution.”
The appreciation event, held in Hyderabad, brought together key industry stakeholders who personally thanked Sultania for his visionary leadership. In a candid address, he reaffirmed the government’s continued support for charge point operators and outlined a series of forward-looking initiatives.
These include net-metering provisions for commercial EV stations to lower electricity costs, a streamlined clearance system targeting sub-three-week approval cycles, and the expansion of ThunderPlus’s flagship “One District One Thunder (ODOT)” program, which aims to create fast-charging hubs across all 33 districts of Telangana—with a special focus on rural and highway
corridors.
